Theodore “Ted” I. Gunderson, 76 of Sioux Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, with his family surrounding him at Sioux Valley Hospital.
Theodore Gunderson, son of Ralph and Josephine (Schiltz) Gunderson, was born on July 23, 1929, at his home in Centerville, SD. He grew up there and graduated from the Centerville High School. Ted served in both the Army and the Navy. He was an honorably discharged Korean War veteran.
Theodore was united in marriage with LaVonne Pearson in Alcester, SD, on December 17, 1955. Ted graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1956. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and Ted began working at John Morrell & Company in the traffic department and was later promoted to Transportation Manager.
Ted was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and a past member of the Moose Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling in leagues for John Morrell & Co., and was also a very avid reader.
A hard worker, Ted was also extremely caring and giving. He took care of his mother after she suffered a stroke and made sure to visit her at least once every day. He was a joke teller with a great sense of humor, and enjoyed being the life of the party. Ted was proud of his children and they remember him for the advice he gave them throughout their lives.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, LaVonne, Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, Gregg Gunderson, Sacramento, CA, Robert Gunderson, Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Debra David and her husband Dennis, Denver, CO, Diane Preihs and her husband Jeff, Denver, CO; two brothers, Brooks Gunderson, Westlake Village, CA, David Gunderson and his wife Betty, Placentia, CA; two grandchildren, Amy and Ashley David, Denver, CO; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin at 8am Sunday, March 5, 2006, with the family present from 2 to 4pm at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A memorial service will be held at 11am Monday, March 6, 2006, at First Lutheran Church with private burial at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville, SD.
